CLEVELAND — Power outages following last night’s storms have caused several Cleveland schools to close on Thursday.

The Lincoln-West School of Global Studies and the Lincoln-West School of Science and Health are closed due to no power, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District said. The two schools are among seven in the district that operate year round.

As of Thursday morning, 7.4% of FirstEnergy customers in Cuyahoga County were without power. More than 8% of customers were without power in Geauga County, according to FirstEnergy.

At one point on Wednesday, more than 130,000 people throughout Ohio were without power, according to FirstEnergy. By Thursday morning, that number was down to fewer than 60,000.

According to the National Weather Service, a 66-mph wind gust was reported in Oregon, Ohio in Lucas County. A 64-mph gust was reported just west of downtown Cleveland at Edgewater Beach.
