COVINGTON, Ky. — soHza Sister is a fair trade boutique. One of the founding sisters, Debbie Lupariello, said soHza’s been around for going on a decade now and they have a shop located in Covington. Lupariello said it’s more than just a place to grab some clothes and accessories.
“We started with the goal of connecting women for change, and our mission has never been more important than right now,” she said.
That mission is clear when you step inside. Clothes and accessories of all kinds make up the shop, but there’s more to it. Stories, photographs and energy of the global artisans are all up. Other than helping from a global scale, soHza aims to help locally.
“We give a portion of every sale to Women Helping Women, YWCA, Girls on the Run and the Women’s Fund,” Lupariello said.
Lupariello knows though women are equal, each woman has a different story and a different path. She knows how it was tough for many navigating the global pandemic. She also knows many in the Unted States have been impacted by ongoing issues concerning race, women’s health and more. She knows women globally working through their own struggles.
As the new year settles in, that means more aspirations for the business to continue empowering women. She wants to get the community together more, she wants to help local female-run businesses and she wants to continue to help support the nonprofits on the ground working to help others.
“We want people feeling connected all over. To me, it would be amazing if people hear the word soHza and it means to them that women are the same no matter where they’re from and the little things you do make a difference,” she said.
