SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — There are still a couple months for Ohioans to take advantage of outdoor activities. The annual Summit Metro Fall Hiking Spree is using the park’s history as its theme: “Field to Forest.”
Many of the parks first served as farm land dating back decades.
The Summit Metro Parks have a saying: “We are your backyard,” Interpretive Naturalist Janean Kazimir said. “We want you to come and enjoy these things.”
To take part of this year’s event all you have to do is sign up online and get hiking. As you go, mark the trails you’ve completed and once eight trails have been completed, drop the form off at one of the designated locations and receive your reward.
“You receive a hiking staff and a little commemorative shield,” said Kazimir. “Every year you get another metal shield to go on your staff.”
If you’d like to participate, you have until Nov. 30 to complete at least eight trails. Specific trails and drop-off locations are on the Summit Metro Parks website: summitmetroparks.org.
