COLUMBUS, Ohio — Despite the chances of the Columbus Crew making the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs being all but gone going into Decision Day, midfielder Lucas Zelarayan collected multiple accolades as the end of the regular season approaches.

For the second time in the 2021 season, Zelarayan was named to the MLS Team of the Week and the MLS Player of the Week after his performance in the Crew’s 3-1 win versus D.C. United. He’s one of two Crew players to win the award as Gyasi Zardes also won the award twice in 2021.

After D.C. United took the lead on a goal in the third minute, Zelarayan tied the match with a converted penalty kick in the 45th minute.
Zelarayan’s second goal of the match in the 76th minute to extend Columbus’ lead. The shot from outside the top of the 18-yard line also was named the MLS AT&T Goal of the Week by fans.

The shot beat out goals by Chicharito of the LA Galaxy, Cade Cowell of the San Jose Earthquakes and Paul Arriola who scored D.C. United’s lone goal against the Crew.
The Crew finish its season Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Lower.com Field versus the Chicago Fire.
