Zoo extends run of Asian Lantern Festival

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announced that it’s extending the Asian Lantern Festival by three additional weeks due to popular demand. 

Since it opened July 14, the Asian Lantern Festival has welcomed 122,000 guests, the zoo said. The festival, which was scheduled to close Sept. 5, has now been extended through Sept. 26. 

The zoo said that capacity for the Asian Lantern Festival was reduced due to COVID-19 protocols. 

The festival is open as a walk-through experience Thursdays through Sundays. The Asian Lantern Festival will be open for a drive through on Sept. 15.

“Each year, the community response to Asian Lantern Festival has been tremendous,” said Cleveland Metroparks Chief Marketing Officer Kelly Manderfield. “We are excited to be able to extend the opportunity for even more visitors to make memories with their friends and family at this unique, outdoor event.” 

Advanced tickets are $20 per person or $60 for a family of four for non-members. Walk-up tickets are $22 per person or $66 for a group of four for members and non-members. Advanced tickets are $18 per person or $54 for a family of four for members. 

Admission on drive-through nights are $54 per car for members and $60 per car for non-members.

More than 70 large-scale illuminated displays featuring over 1,000 individual lanterns will be on display, the zoo said. Live performances will be held every hour. Performances include foot juggling, contortion, martial arts and more.

Several local restaurants, including Li Wah and King Wah, are serving food during the festival.
