COLUMBUS, Ohio — One of central Ohio’s largest events will return to the Ohio Expo Center this year after it was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The All American Quarter Horse Congress, the world’s largest single-breed horse show, attracts 650,000 people and generates $409 million in the central Ohio economy, officials said.
“We are expecting the event to be the biggest and best Congress yet. Our team and our community is eager to be back, especially after not being able to hold Congress in 2020. We’re offering over $3 million in cash and prizes this year,” said Taylor Staus, a spokesperson for the Quarter Horse Congress.
The All American Quarter Horse Congress is hosted by the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, a state affiliate of the American Quarter Horse Association.
The event will be held Sept. 28 through Oct. 24 at the Ohio Expo Center, 717 E. 17th Ave.
This year, Staus said officials are working with a COVID task force and monitoring recommendations by the Ohio Department of Health to ensure the health and safety of participants.
“As of right now, the event will not be requiring masks or proof of vaccination status. Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the grounds. We have over 16,000 bottles of hand sanitizer that we will be distributing to each exhibitor at check-in. We are taking all precautions,” Staus said.
Staus said officials expect to sell out this year as special event ticket sales have surpassed sales from 2019.
“Special Events tickets have already sold over $75,000 compared to the 2019 sales at this time which were just under $50,000. We are expecting to sell out again this year. The ticket sales are going through the roof right now,” according to Staus.
