CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Public Library kicked off its annual summer reading program Monday.

By participating in the library’s Summer Lit League, children will have the opportunity to win various prizes, including a PS5, Apple iPad, Chomebook and Nintendo Switch. Youth participants will be asked to read 10 books during the summer. Children who complete two book reviews or video book talks are eligible for an additional entry into the drawing.

Adults can also participate and win prizes by reading five books this summer.

Those who complete the program will be given a pass to the Great Lakes Science Center for free admission for a child and adult on Aug. 5.

The library will also have a new virtual program every weekday, ranging from STEM activities to storytimes with special guests.

The Cleveland Public Library is also offering free meals this summer for families.

Meals for children ages 18 and under will be offered for free at all Cleveland Public Library locations from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. during the summer. The program is open to all children regardless of income.

A two-day supply of meals will be provided at select locations. Some libraries will also provide “Family Food Boxes” for children and their families, which will include 20-30 pounds of nonperishable food, including pasta, rice and canned goods.

Additional details are available through Cleveland Public Library branches.

The library system is currently operating 25 branch locations. Three branch locations — Jefferson, West Park and Woodland — are temporarily closed.
