CLEVELAND — Ahead of next month’s Cleveland mayoral primary, the City Club of Cleveland is scheduled to host two debates featuring the seven candidates vying to replace four-term Mayor Frank Jackson.

The first of the two debates will be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. The second debate will be Aug. 17. Both debates are scheduled for 90 minutes.

The City Club said topics for the first debate will be racial equality, public safety, housing, transparency in government and health equity. The second debate will cover education, jobs, the economy, environmental issues and transportation. Questions for both debates will come from voters.

The debates will be held at the Idea Center in Playhouse Square and will be hosted by Ideastream Public Media. The debates will stream live on the City Club’s website.

Of the seven candidates, several would be newcomers to elected office.

On Sept. 14, an open primary will whittle the field of seven down to two candidates. The final two candidates will participate in the Nov. 2 general election.

The registration deadline for the September primary is Aug. 16. Early voting begins the next day.

Here is who appears on the ballot:

  • Justin Bibb
  • Ross DiBello
