CLEVELAND — Malcolm Scott served six years in the Air Force with one tour of duty under his belt, so it’s safe to say he loves planes.

What You Need To Know

  • The Cleveland Air Show has been around for 80 years
  • The show was canceled last year because of the pandemic
  • Fans come from near and far to enjoy the show

“The World War II planes are some of my special things that I love to see. I love those. I love the props,” said Scott.

The veteran and his wife, Michele, drove from Columbus and met up with Michele’s sister, Juanita Lowe, who lives in Cleveland.

The trio has attended the event in the past but this is their first time experiencing the show up close and personal right next to the runway.

“You didn’t get this across the street,” said Michele Scott. “Over there you can’t see everything. And you don’t get to see the low flying planes.”

The group said they enjoyed watching the planes twist and turn in the air.

“Aw, this is awesome. I love it,” said Malcolm Scott. “Look at ’em, man. That is awesome. Twisting and turning and jacking you around.”

They also said they got a thrill out of seeing the parachuters.

“I loved the parachuters and the way that they were able to come down real fast and then stop just in time to land. That’s on my bucket list,” said Michele Scott.

But the excitement really took off when Malcolm Scott saw his plane, the C130, take to the sky.

“Man, bad boy comes off. The big parachute pops out. Aw man, it’s beautiful. It’s nothing like it. It’s nothing like it. I’m telling you. I love them. I love them. I’ve been on many of them,” said Malcolm Scott.

The family said they enjoyed the day but this isn’t the end for them.

They’ll be back next year.

“Absolutely. We’re going to have more people with us. This is going to be a family affair.”

The air show runs through Labor Day.

Tickets can be purchased at www.clevelandairshow.com.
