CLEVELAND — The Indians took on the Yankees in the first wild card game Tuesday.

Even though fans could not be in the stands, they still found ways to show their support for their favorite team.

The game started out with a bang, a firework show signaled it was time to play ball as fans lined up around the an empty Progressive Field.

Keith Campbell and his friends set up chairs outside of the ballpark to cheer on the Tribe.

“We’re supporting our team the best that we can, even though we can’t get in, we come down here, and we are showing what Cleveland is all about. We can’t get in but we will get as close as we can,” said Campbell.

To make sure he and his friends didn’t miss out on any of the action, Campbell brought along a laptop to live stream the game.

“We want them to hear our voice because they have been doing it in the 9th inning,” Campbell said. “We want to show them our support the best we can.”

Before the game ever started, groups of dedicated fans showed up to watch the team practice.

Jeff James had an especially lucky evening. He caught three balls during practice.

“It’s nice to see them in person, or maybe get a foul ball or something,” James said.

Another die-hard fan made an appearance outside of the stadium. The Indians mascot, Slider, stopped by to hype up the fans that were there to support the Tribe.

And for fans like Spenser Crane this experience was one to remember.

“So, just being here and watching them live, is just a dream come true,” said Crane.

The result wasn’t what Cleveland fans were hoping for — the Yankees won the game, 12-3.

Indians fans could once again be seen on the Tribe’s nationally televised game Wednesday standing outside the left-field gate and in a nearby parking garage watching the game.

The Yankees scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Indians, 10-9, and advance to the American League Divisional Series. The loss ended the Indians 2020 season.
