OHIO — Another Ohio track and field athlete has a shot to medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Katie Nageotte of Olmsted Falls placed first in the semifinals Monday after rain delayed the competition. The 30-year-old had the highest jump of the year after recording a 4.95 in June in Eugene, Oregon to qualify for the Games.

Anzhelika Sidorova of the Russian Olympic Committee team and Katerina Stefanidi of Greece also qualified for the finals.

The Ashland University native told Spectrum News 1 she’s been training in Washington State with former Olympian Brad Walker.

“I don’t think he really wanted to but according to him, when I sent him videos he said he would be dumb not to take me on, so I’m just very grateful he did,” she said.

Another track and field athlete from Ohio will be joining her in finals, just in a different event.

On Sunday, two-time Olympian Clayton Murphy came in second in the 800m semifinals.

Nageotte will compete Thursday, Aug. 5 at 6:20 a.m. and Murphy will also go for gold on Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 8:05 a.m. EST.
