CLEVELAND — A group of seniors from Lincoln West High School joined others in the Cleveland community to help clean up trash, and overall, they collected more than 20 garbage bags.
“It makes you really happy to know that you’re helping in some type of way,” said student Brianna Blankenship.
The mantra of the day, set by Councilwoman Jasmin Santana, is that to if you want to help the planet, you need to “start in your own backyard.”
“You know we may be doing this for a school project but if anyone else can contribute in your neighborhood or your city, if you see something on the ground, just throw it away. One piece can mean a lot,” said student Nathan Kile.
Their teacher, Rosa Morales-Cruz, also helped out and said she is proud of the students work and all throughout their years at Lincoln West.
“It means everything to me. I love our kids. I love our school,” said Morales-Cruz. “This is the school that I graduated from so being a teacher here and being able to get back to the community is very special to me very dear to my heart.”
