CINCINNATI — Aftab Pureval is set to become the next Cincinnati mayor replacing John Cranley after David Mann conceded earlier on Tuesday.

Election Day came after weeks of early voting as thousands of voters have already submitted a ballot.

ELECTION RESULTS

Cincinnati mayoral race

Cincinnati will get a new mayor as John Cranley leaves off to seek the governorship. The mayoral race put two Democrats against each other. Pureval, Hamilton County’s clerk of courts, faced David Mann. Pureval has been the clerk of courts in Hamilton County since 2017 while Mann has been on City Council since 2014.

Mann had two brief stints as mayor as well as served as a one-term member of the U.S. Congress.

Mann and Pureval were the top two finishes in the six-way primary.

35 vying for Cincinnati City Council

The race to join Cincinnati City Council was quite crowded as 35 candidates ran for nine at-large seats. While there are five current Cincinnati City Council members in the race, only one of whom is seeking re-election. The other four were appointed to their seats on council.

Voters chose up to nine candidates in the race.

Dayton to also have a new mayor

Like Cincinnati, Dayton’s Democratic mayor is also leaving to run for governor in 2022. Replacing Nan Whaley will be Jeffrey Mims Jr. who defeated Rennes Bowers. Mims and Bowers were victorious in May in the municipal primary.
