Paint maker Sherwin-Williams has submitted building plans to the city of Cleveland that include constructing a 36-story tower.

The proposed tower would make it one of the tallest buildings in the city of Cleveland.

The site, which is currently used for surgace parking lots, is be located near Public Square between St. Clair and Superior Avenues.

In addition to the 36-story skyscraper in downtown, Sherwin-Williams also would build a two-story pavilion and a five-story garage. The tower would be located on the corner of W. Third St. and Superior Ave.

The two-story pavilion would be adjacent to Public Square, with a pedestrian skybridge extending across W. Third St. to the proposed tower.

Sherwin-Williams said that the total investment would be $310 million. The headquarters would house 3,100 employees, the company said.

The company’s goal is to break ground on the complex by the end of 2021 with the headquarters set to open by 2024, pending approval by the city.

“Building our new global headquarters in downtown Cleveland was important to the company. It allows Sherwin-Williams to build upon our 155-year legacy as one of the city’s top employers and drivers of economic activity, as well as community supporters,” the company said in its proposal to the city. “It also reflects our confidence in the strength of the city and its people.”

Sherwin-Williams will meet with the city on July 20. Final plans are expected to be released Nov. 16.

Details of the plan are available on the Sherwin-Williams website.
