COLUMBUS — Cleveland, Columbus and Akron area hospitals reported an increase in the number of available hospital beds between May 21 and May 28.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati, Toledo and Dayton all reported a decrease in the number of available hospital beds during that time.
Lucia Walinchus, the executive director for Eye on Ohio, discussed the latest report with Spectrum News 1.
“This a good problem to have, right? We’re kind of slowly plateauing and going down,” Walinchus said. “Overall, these are great numbers and we’re really seeing an increase in capacity, particularly compared to this past winter.”
The latest numbers report that Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Bryan, Mercy Anderson and University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center are all dealing with an influx of patients.
Meanwhile, the state reported a decrease in the overall number of intensive care unit beds.
On May 28, the state reported 563 available ICU beds, a decrease of 87 from May 21.
Eye on Ohio fought the state for access to the number of available hospital beds and other equipment related to COVID-19. The organization filed a lawsuit in the Court of Claims of Ohio to obtain the requested information.
In November, Judge Patrick M. McGrath ruled the Ohio Department of Health must provide that data.
